Romuald Suszczewicz is the founder and owner of PATENTBOX, an intellectual property law firm he established in Poznań, Poland, over 30 years ago. With more than 40 years of active practice in industrial property, he is one of the most experienced IP practitioners in the Poznań region — and a rare example of an attorney whose career spans both the pre- and post-transition periods of Polish economic and legal history.
His working language is Polish; he also speaks Russian.
Romuald founded PATENTBOX in the early 1990s, at a pivotal moment in Polish history when the country was transitioning to a market economy and the demand for intellectual property protection was growing rapidly alongside private enterprise. Building the firm from the ground up, he created what is today a boutique IP practice known for its depth of expertise, long-standing client relationships, and recognition in the international trademark community through the World Trademark Review WTR 1000 ranking.
Over three decades, PATENTBOX has grown into a full-service IP firm advising individual entrepreneurs, Polish companies, and international clients on the protection of trademarks, designs, patents, and other intellectual property rights — in Poland, the European Union, and worldwide.
Before founding PATENTBOX, Romuald spent nearly 20 years — from the 1970s through the late 1980s — at Energoprojekt, the Energy Design Office in Poznań. There he worked on the drafting of patent and utility model applications in the energy sector, filed to the Polish Patent Office (UPRP). This formative experience gave him deep familiarity with the full lifecycle of an invention — from technical conception through legal protection — and an understanding of IP from an engineer’s perspective that continues to inform his work today.
Romuald holds a Master of Science in Engineering degree from the Poznań University of Technology, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, in the field of Industrial Electrical Automation. His technical background in electro-automatics is particularly relevant to patent work involving industrial systems, machinery, and technical processes.
Romuald’s practice draws on four decades of experience across the full spectrum of industrial property law. His particular depth lies in patent matters — reflecting both his engineering background and his early career preparing technical patent documentation at Energoprojekt. His areas of expertise include:
